Transformative Cell Processing Company Signed Letter of Intent with CiRA Foundation

2023/4/11

To upgrade the regenerative medicine in Taiwan and advance the cell processing capacity into the international market, Transformative Cell Processing Company (TCPC) has signed the letter of intent with CiRA Foundation on 10th, March 2023. The representatives of both parties for this LOI are Dr. Steve Hsu-Sung Kuo (Chairman of TCPC) and Naoko Takasu (Executive Director of CiRA Foundation).

CiRA Foundation is an offshoot of the Center for iPS Cell Research and Application (CiRA), Kyoto University, established in 2019. Dr. Yamanaka, the Director of CiRA Foundation had been awarded the Nobel Prize in 2012 for Physiology or Medicine for the discovery that mature cells can be converted to stem cells. He is recognized as an outstanding researcher with multiple awards around the world.
With the efforts of Dr. Frank Mao-Chung Chang (Former president of National Chiao-Tung University), Dr. Hsu-Sung Kuo (Former president of National Yang-Ming University), and Dr. Stan Shih (Founder of Acer Inc.), CiRA Foundation signed the MOU with National Yang-Ming Chiao-Tung University (NYCU) in May 2020. To accelerate the technology development, TCPC was founded as a spin-off company of NYCU. TCPC inherits the spirit of the cooperation, collaborating with NYCU and Taipei Veterans General Hospital, while working closely with CiRA Foundation to contribute to the international society with advanced regenerative medicine technology.

Leveraging the strength of both Taiwan’s semiconductor technology and CiRA Foundation’s medical research, the partnership seeks to present solutions to bring iPS cell therapy from basic research to industrial applications. By optimizing processes and reducing costs, TCPC can provide high quality iPS cells to make iPS cell production affordable medical products.
